Stolen sheep recovered due to vigilant policing in #FSstocktheft─── CHRISTAL-LIZE MULLER 12:25 Thu, 10 Aug 2017
Two men are behind bars after they allegedly stole sheep to the value of R21 000 on a farm near Ladybrand in the Free State.
Police spokesperson, Martin Xuma, says two police constables from the Tweespruit Police Station patrolled the N8 between Tweespruit and Westminister yesterday morning when they saw the men herding sheep in the direction of Tweespruit.
According to Xuma, the suspects ran away when they saw the two police officers, who managed to arrest the men. The suspects revealed during interrogation the 14 sheep were stolen at a farm near Ladybrand. The stolen sheep were handed back to their owner who positively identified the recovered stock as his own.
The suspects, aged 21 and 29, are expected to appear in the Tweespruit Magistrate's Court on charges of the possession of suspected stolen stock tomorrow. Xuma says the suspects are from Botshabelo. It is believed they stole the sheep on Tuesday night.
Meanwhile, Selosesha Cluster Commander, Kgothatso Ramokotjo, applauded the two police officers for their good work. The owner of the livestock was also thanked for brand marking his livestock as it made police’s task easier in tracing the lawful owner.
