Cool Kids - Caleb Payne on The Joyride─── 16:15 Mon, 24 Oct 2022
Nico chats to 11-year-old, South African born actor Caleb Payne, who recently won big at the Youth Oscars. Payne walked away with Feature Film Leading Youth Artist Award for Good Life on the 2nd of October.
Based in Stellenbosch, Caleb hit it big when he played an Albanian refugee, Jetmir, in GoodLife, a Netflix film directed by South African filmmaker Bonnie Rodini. The film follows a woman who finds refuge in Cape Town and meets a little boy who shows her the way of life. At only 11, Caleb has already been in a number of films & series including, The Kissing Booth, Resident Evil, Warrior seasons1 & 2 and Abraham Lincon in 2021.
Caleb is in excellent company with his win, as the only other South African to receive a Youth Artist Academy Award was Trevor Noah back in 2020. Noah won Journalistic Excellence Award for his work on American late night political satire show, The Daily Show with Trevor Noah.
Speaking on his nomination with TimesLive, Caleb said that one of the things that stood out for him from working on the project, was definitely meeting and working with different people from different walks of life.
Talking to Nico, Caleb assured us that he isn't taking a break after his win as he has already worked on some projects for us to lookout for. These include, the play Edward which is directed by South African award-winning playwright Marthinus Basson. Caleb will also star opposite Daniel Sherman in the feature film The Fix.
On the heels of one of South Africa's greatest exports in the international film industry, Thuso Mbedu, Caleb is well on his way to becoming a bigger name in Hollywood. Remember the name, Caleb Payne!
