“Quinny is an enigma and he hasn't officially called time. Quinny has very high standards for himself and has dreamed about a World Cup win for a very long time.”

There is uncertainty over the future of the Proteas wicketkeeper, Quinton de Kock, in the national setup.

The destructive left-handed opening batter only plays T20 International cricket for South Africa after already having call time on this One-Day International and Test career.

It is believed that the 31-year-old may also be calling time on T20 International cricket after the Proteas fell 7-runs short of winning a first-ever T20 World Cup title last week.

De Kock hasn’t played a Test since December 2021, while his last ODI was played in November 2023 during the ICC Cricket World Cup in India.

The Proteas coach, Rob Walter, conceded that only time will tell whether or not De Kock will represent South Africa again.

“Quinny is an enigma and he hasn't officially called time,” said Walter during the press conference following the Proteas team from the West Indies.

“We have that little glimmer of hope that sits in the background.

“Quinny has very high standards for himself and has dreamed about a World Cup win for a very long time.

“Has had a number of knocks along the way, not least this last final. You would have seen that he was very emotional with it. Whether we see him again, only time will tell."

“I've had no conversations with him - it wasn't the right time after the final to have that conversation. Let me leave it at saying your guess is as good as mine.”

De Kock made his T20 International debut in December 2012 against New Zealand in Paarl, just 5 days after his 20th birthday.
