“Local people who had been working at the plant did their medical tests last week and would not be retained.”

Disgruntled members of Bodibe Village outside Litchenburg in North West have submitted a memorandum of grievances to Afrimat that took over from Lafarge Cement in the area.

The disgruntled group visited the site in their area to show their unhappiness over job opportunities and the new ownership.

One of the residents, Prince Motlhako, told OFM News local people who had been working at the plant did their medical tests last week and would not be retained.

Motlhako emphasised that local jobs should be secured to boost and maintain the community’s livelihood.

According to Motlhako, the new owners should retain those locals who worked as general workers and operators, citing that benefiting locals should be prioritised.

Upon submitting the memorandum, both parties agreed to engage further on the demands made by the group.
