MAP residents endure 3-day water shortage, forced to rely on rain─── 09:56 Sun, 11 Feb 2024
"To minimize the inconvenience, we kindly urged residents to store an adequate water supply in preparation for that brief interruption,” Mongake said.
Residents of Maluti-a-Phofung (MAP) in the Free State faced significant challenges due to a water shortage lasting at least three days. Many residents reported being forced to rely on rainwater for cooking and bathing during this time.
The water outage was a result of planned maintenance and a temporary interruption in water supply by MAP Water, the municipality’s water entity.
Some residents expressed frustration, noting that such water shortages were not uncommon. Resident Nkemeleng Molai said there have been times when they endured month-long water outages without any prior notification.
‘We kindly urged residents to store an adequate water supply’
In response,MAP Water’s Kelopile Mongake defended the interruption as necessary maintenance. “To minimise the inconvenience, we kindly urge residents to store an adequate water supply in preparation for that brief interruption.”
Despite the challenges, Mongake commended residents for their cooperation with the municipality during the dry spell.
