Bloemfontein hiking club steps up for disadvantaged learners─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 11:30 Sat, 10 Feb 2024
"The campaign started simply because of the experience of few members who went to school without a proper pair of shoes."
A Bloemfontein-based hiking club has continued with its mission to make a difference in the lives of learners from disadvantaged backgrounds. As a non-profit organisation, the Maoto Mpepe Hiking Club relies on support from the public to make a meaningful impact in impoverished areas.
As part of its efforts, Maoto Mpepe held a charity walk drive today, starting at 05:30. The hikers embarked on a 20km walk from College Square in Bloemfontein.

“The campaign started simply because of the experience of a few of our members who went to school without a proper pair of shoes,” said Rene Seipati, media liaison of the group. “We decided that every year we will come together and have a shoe drive where we collect shoes for less privileged children.”
This year’s campaign concludes today, with community members encouraged to donate financially to the cause.
Khumalo said they have already identified schools in Bloemfontein where they will donate the shoes. Last year, the hiking club donated uniforms and school shoes to schools in Bloemfontein and Botshabelo.
