Millions stolen from Lesotho government to be returned by Free State officials─── LUCKY NKUYANE 09:20 Fri, 03 Nov 2023
“The proceeds are part of R31 million stolen from the Lesotho Treasury in 2021. An amount of R18 million was returned to Lesotho last year. The AFU will be handing over the proceeds of this crime to Lesotho's Treasury on Friday.”
Millions of rands are set to be returned to the Lesotho government on Friday (3/10) by Free State government officials in Bloemfontein in the Free State.
This was after the Free State Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) recovered part of the R31 million stolen from the neighbouring country's Treasury in 2021.
Acting NPA spokesperson, Mojalefa Senokoatsane, confirmed to OFM News that R5.1 million, two flats and three vehicles will form part of the items to be handed to the Lesotho government.

Senokoatsane said this follows a collaboration between the AFU and Lesotho’s Directorate on Corruption and Economic Offences on several AFU applications brought in the Bloemfontein High Court this past year.
“The proceeds are part of R31 million stolen from the Lesotho Treasury in 2021. An amount of R18 million was returned to Lesotho last year. The AFU will be handing over the proceeds of crime to Lesotho's Treasury on Friday (3/11) at 09:00 at the NPA's DPP Offices, on the 7th floor, in Bloemfontein. Colleagues within the media industry are invited to be part of this important event,” Senokoatsane said.
