“The doors of the Tshireletsong Child and Youth Centre were closed in 2017 as the building was in a dilapidated state after it was vandalised.”

The Tshireletsong Child and Youth Centre in Bochabela, Bloemfontein, closed in 2017 as the building was in a dilapidated state after it was vandalised. Last week, Free State Public Works and Infrastructure MEC, Dibolelo Mance, handed over the first phase of the newly renovated children’s home.

Mance said the handover to Social Development will ensure that the children are accommodated at the centre and well-catered for in a facility meeting all norms and standards.

The project employed more than 200 community members with three female contractors. The centre has a hall, laundry room, kitchen, guard houses, swimming pool, sports courts, dormitories, and office space.

Social Development HOD Tumelo Phaahlo welcomed the handover of the newly constructed Tshireletsong Child and Youth Centre.

“This facility (will) accommodate 29 girls and 23 boys. This facility was vacated because it was vandalised, but today we are happy because it’s a purpose-built facility. It has facilities meant for children. They can stay, live here and play. There are ample areas of recreation,” said Paahlo.
