Three North West maths teachers have been selected to attend a seminar in China.
Tebogo Mokwene, Constance Kgomotso Pilane and Lesego Brenda Mokotedi will travel to China until 4 November, along with 22 other teachers from around the country, as part of a program from the Department of Basic Education and the Chinese Embassy.
Mokwene and Pilane, both from Ngaka Modiri Molema District, won National Teachers Awards in 2019. Mokotedi is deputy principal of Mafenya Primary school in Rustenburg. North West Education spokesperson Mpatha Molokwane said the seminar is an opportunity for teachers to learn about the latest trends and best practices in mathematics education in China. They will also have an opportunity to network with Chinese teachers and officials.
Viola Motsumi, MEC for Education in North West, congratulated the teachers and said they will benefit greatly from this experience. “They are the cream of the crop. I am confident that our teachers will return to South Africa with new knowledge and skills that they can share with their colleagues and students.”
