“The DA and Mr Zwane have misled the community of Metsimaholo into believing that they exude and lead a corruption-free government, which we all now know is a fallacy.”

Different political parties in the Sasolburg-based Metsimaholo Local Municipality in the Free State will on Friday meet to debate an EFF motion of no confidence against the DA mayor Jeff Zwane.

The EFF wants the embattled Zwane to be ousted as the mayor of the troubled municipality following a forensic report by Molefi Ntleru Inc. OFM News previously reported that this report allegedly implicated Zwane and said he interfered with the administration of the municipality and that he had a conflict of interest.

The Ntleru report also accused two senior accounting officials – the Municipal Manager and Chief Financial Officer – of corruption relating to the R2.4 million security tender. The EFF's regional spokesperson in Fezile Dabi, April Motaung, said the red berets are serious about tackling and uprooting all forms of corruption and incompetence in the municipality.

“The EFF is not leaving any stone unturned and will not turn a blind eye to blatant and deliberate corruption. The DA and Mr Zwane have misled the community of Metsimaholo into believing that they exude and lead a corruption-free government, which we all now know is a fallacy.

“The Metsimaholo council was decisive and resolute when they put the MM, CFO and other officials on precautionary suspension for alleged corruption. The DA condemned that act in the quest to conceal their own wrongdoing and corruption,” Motaung said.

Meanwhile, the DA caucus leader, Thulani Mbana, previously labelled the motion by the EFF as an attempt to score political points as he said the allegations against Zwane are baseless.

"You see how they have flooded social media platforms with it, that is not based on principles but pure desire to settle whatever political score they may have against the DA and the Executive Mayor. At this point, the office of the mayor is studying the motion and we will respond accordingly in due course," Mbana said.
