A Member of the Mayoral Committee Mokete Motsamai says the executive mayor, Peter Teixeira, will on Thursday (29/06) deliver his keynote address on their plans for the municipality, challenges, solutions, and achievements. He mentioned that in the coming financial year, the municipality will also invest heavily in the infrastructure upgrade. 

“The Mayor annually addresses the public on the direction we are heading, he will go as far as announcing the Medium Term Expenditure Framework budget, which covers over three years,” he stated.

Recently, the Auditor-General, Tsakani Maluleke, said Midvaal has managed to obtain a clean audit for the ninth time this previous financial year, and the reason for this can be seen as public participation. The DA-run municipality is one of two in Gauteng which received clean audits in the 2023/2022 local government audit outcomes, the other is the coalition-run City of Ekurhuleni. The reason behind these two receiving clean audits was their focus on ensuring the delivery of quality services and governance to residents. Midvaal was able to provide financial records that were valid, with no material findings or misrepresentations.

Motsamai explains that the Mayor’s address will touch on what they have accomplished as a municipality from an economic point of view. “This will be an opportunity for the mayor to give assurance to the residents that even after the impact that Covid-19 has had on the institution, they have been able to achieve certain things.” He added that he believes that in the entire province, their unemployment rate is the lowest and they intend to keep it that way. However, there are plans in place to ensure that they provide more job opportunities to residents within the area.

Teixeira previously said when he first took office, he and the new administration team had to focus on filling the vital vacancies within the municipality, these being the Municipal Manager and Heads to head different departments; which they have done successfully. The main drive now is to take the municipality to the next level. “Our municipality is mostly known for its excellent service delivery and as the new administration, we aim to bring some innovation in the way we deliver services to our people. We always aimed to bring services to people in a more effective way and continue improving their lives in the best possible way we can,” he explained.
