Five people lost their lives late Friday evening on the R30 road in the Free State.
Provincial Emergency Medical Services (EMS) spokesperson, Sipho Towa, says the deceased were declared dead on scene.
They were all trapped inside the vehicle, until extrication was done by EMS members. The accident occurred between Theunissen and Brandfort.
Towa explains two cars collided head on.
Apart from the five individuals that died, two others were slightly injured, while one is moderately injured.
All patients were transported to Katleho Hospital in Virginia for medical attention.
