A case against a Bloemfontein taxi driver (32), who allegedly assaulted a female traffic officer, has been postponed to 9 February 2023.
The suspect appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court on Thursday after being arrested for assault, with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm, obstructing an officer while executing her duties, and damaging state property.
According to Free State police spokesperson Thabo Covane, a traffic officer from the Mangaung Metro, who was driving a marked vehicle, stopped a Toyota Quantum taxi in Dr Belcher Road, Bloemfontein, at about 11:00 as part of her daily routine duties.
The taxi driver became violent and attacked the officer. He assaulted her by biting her hand and tearing her uniform, exposing her body to bystanders. Covane adds that a stranger intervened and rescued the officer from the taxi driver.
