Bus driver to appear in court for assaulting school pupil─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 09:02 Fri, 03 Feb 2023
A bus driver who allegedly assaulted a 17-year-old grade 12 learner from Hanover Farm near Bultfontein is set to appear in the Hoopstad Magistrate's Court on Friday.
The 56-year-old school bus driver was arrested earlier this week after he had allegedly strangled and kicked a 17-year-old in front of other learners.
Free State police spokesperson, Stephen Thakeng, told OFM News that the incident took place on Monday 30 January 2023, at the Oranjekuil Farm bus stop where learners were picked up by the driver who allegedly took out a list, called out names of learners to board the bus, leaving the 17-year-old outside. It’s alleged that the victim entered the bus and asked the driver why he was not allowed to board the bus and that is when the bus driver assaulted him. Thakeng said the learner sustained internal injuries and a bruised body.

The suspect is facing charges of assault and attempted murder. This is after police consultations with prosecution authorities based on the new evidence in the form of a video clip.
