The North West Provincial Legislature has appointed its new Deputy Speaker and Chairperson of Chairpersons of Committees.
Former Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) MEC, Lina Miga, has been elected as the new Deputy Speaker of the Legislature, while Kabelo Mataboge has been elected as the Chairperson of Chairpersons of Committees.
The Speaker of the Legislature, Basetsana Dantjie, presided over a special sitting where Miga and Mataboge were elected for their respective positions. The spokesperson for the legislature, Namhla Luhambe, says Miga was elected by means of a secret ballot, while Mataboge was elected by show of hands.
“All members of the different political parties represented in the Legislature were present and participated in the election held during the sitting in the chamber. Honourable Miga is the former Cogta MEC whilst Honourable Mataboge is the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Education, Arts, Culture and Sports Recreation,” she explained.
Meanwhile, Miga said that she is delighted by the responsibility of becoming Deputy Speaker of the Legislature and further stated that she will ensure that the functions of the legislature are carried out with dignity and honour. Mataboge emphasised that he will ensure proper oversight over the executive to ensure services are delivered to the people of North West.
