Free State school pupils sent home a day after reopening─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 14:24 Thu, 12 Jan 2023
School pupils at the Bloemfontein-based Legae Combined School in the Free State, were sent home on the second day of the 2023 school calendar year after the school was vandalised.
It’s also alleged that more schools were vandalised in Bloemfontein, however, no details have been revealed yet.
Following his visit to the Legae Primary School to monitor the second day of schooling, Mangaung EFF councillor, Baba Sebolao, expressed his disappointment at the state that the school is in, just a day after the schools were opened.
“The situation at Legae Commercial High School is so bad that our children don’t have chairs and desks in all the classes. There are no doors, the ceiling is falling. As I am speaking to you now, at 13:02 we just came out of the SGB meeting and we resolved that children must be released to go home because we don’t have water, and the toilets are vandalised,” said Sebolao.
Meanwhile, Bloemfontein Courant reported that Free State Education MEC Tate Makgoe said that 342 chairs meant for learners, worth R68 400, wiring of about R7 000, ceilings valued at R20 000, doors valued at R2 800 were stolen at Legae Combined school.
OFM News has since sent an enquiry to the Education Department and is awaiting a response.
This is a developing story.
