Northern Cape Health to address backlogs─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 14:25 Thu, 07 Jul 2022
The Kimberley based Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe hospital in the Northern Cape is set to extend its theatres to accommodate more patients as part of addressing backlog issues.
This was announced by Northern Cape Health MEC, Maruping Lekwene, whilst unpacking the turnaround strategy for the Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe hospital. He said that currently there are eight theatres in the hospital, but only four are functional.
Lekwene said that the department is looking into strengthening its services and the functionality of theatres in district hospitals will be key, as it will alleviate pressure from district hospitals such as Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe.
“In terms of our turnaround strategy, the hospital is in the process of establishing vision center an optic laboratory for spectacles to be made on sight. One side is the independent non-profit organization that provides to quality vision care and some protection who collaborate with the hospital in this regard,” he adds.
