Mangaung pleads for help over infrastructure vandalism─── LUCKY NKUYANE 08:46 Sat, 16 Apr 2022
The Bloemfontein-based Mangaung Metro Municipality has asked residents to help combat the alleged vandalism of, amongst others, water infrastructure.
The metro's spokesperson, Qondile Khedema, says in a statement the municipality is appealing to "the community to assist in combating the scourge of vandalism and theft at municipal and community facilities."
He says several community facilities have been targeted by criminal elements, disrupting service delivery while also necessitating repairs with funds that could have been spent elsewhere to further enhance service delivery.

Khedama adds some of the most affected community facilities are Batho Hall, Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium, Selosesha Stadium, amongst others.
Khedama further adds that the metro is continuing with the acceleration of service delivery in various parts of the city.

The Free State's only metro has recently made headlines about the dilapidating of its essential infrastructure including water and roads. It has also seen a fair share of criticism over the lack of waste collection over the past few months.

The metro further came under scrutiny a few weeks ago after residents spend at least three days without water after a burst at Welbedacht and Maselspoort water pipelines.
The municipality was also under the spotlight during the National Council of Provinces’ (NCOP) sittings at the Free State Legislature in the Fourth Raadsaal in Bloemfontein.
