Mangaung's streets cleaned ahead of presidential #imbizo─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 16:07 Thu, 07 Apr 2022
Various streets of the troubled Mangaung Metro have been cleaned, while others are continuing to receive facelifts ahead of this weekend’s presidential Imbizo that will be held at the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium in Bloemfontein, in the Free State.
Mangaung has for some time been under scrutiny over issues of poor service delivery and this has led to various protests by angry residents of the metro.
The Mangaung Concerned Community (MCC) spokesperson, Themba Zweni, says that metro residents have been suffering for a long time due to the provincial government that has been reluctant to serve the community. He says that issues of service delivery are only being attended to because of the Presidential Imbizo that will be taking place on Saturday.
"We want to hear what the president has to say because we will be able to address the president as residents in Mangaung. And I think he is able to see that things are only happening when he is coming down. We have been suffering, there has been no waste refugee collection, potholes have not been fixed, the sewage has been running all over the place. Quite interesting, we'll be talking to him. We will be telling him that it looks like service delivery only happens when he's coming down,” adds Zweni.
President Cyril Ramaphosa recently lambasted the North West municipality for its poor state of service delivery.
Meanwhile Zweni says that the MCC went to clean Magengenene Cemetery in Bloemfontein as part of their continuous voluntary programme.
