Alleged cable thief electrocuted in Vereeniging─── 14:20 Thu, 07 Apr 2022
An alleged railway cable thief has been electrocuted in Vereeniging.
The incident occurred at the Leeuhof rail tracks in Vereeniging, in the Vaal.
Some members of the community, who identified the alleged cable thief, alleged he is from Tshepiso Phase 3 in Sharpeville.
His death resulted from electrocution by an overhead cable.
He died on the scene.

Cable theft in the area has resulted in the cancellation of all train commutes between Vereeniging and Park Station since the beginning of the Covid-19 lockdown period.

No arrests have been made in any of these cable theft incidents.
Following today's incident, an inquest docked has been opened by the Vereeniging police station.
