Condolence messages continue to pour in for NW mayor─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 15:42 Wed, 06 Oct 2021
The North West Health MEC, Madoda Sambatha, has sent a message to empathise with the family of the late Naledi Local Municipal mayor, Neo Schalk, after he was involved in a car accident on Sunday morning.
In a statement issued by the North West Health Department, Sambatha describes the death of Schalk as a major loss to the province and the country at large. He says that Schalk was one of the people who were directly involved in raising awareness against Covid-19.
“It is a sad moment for the Schalk family. I also know that it is even a worse time for his wife and kids. To Mrs Schalk and the family, know that we are with you as you mourn the death of your husband and father to your children,” said Sambatha.
OFM News previously reported that Schalk’s death comes less than a month after the Johannesburg mayor, Jolidee Matongo, lost his life in an accident on the Golden Highway, mere hours after an ANC electioneering event alongside President Cyril Ramaphosa in Soweto.

Meanwhile, North West MEC for the Department of Community Safety and Transport Management, Sello Lehari, expressed in a statement his condolences to Schalk’s family. “In the many joint law enforcement operations that we held in Vryburg, mayor Schalk was always there. He would actively participate, imploring on road users to obey the rules of the road. I am saddened by his untimely death, especially at the time that we are preparing for local government elections.” said Lehari.
