The Free State Premier Sisi Ntombela, with the MEC of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Thembeni Nxangisa, and Health MEC Montseng Tsiu, met with Kgosi Nkgahle and the Batlokwa Ba Mokgalong clan to hand over land that was forcibly taken.
According to Ntombela, the handover by the Free State Provincial Government was to correct the wrongs and injustices of the painful past. She said that Batlokwa Ba Makgalong clan has now regained their pride after long sufferings of moving from one place to the next.
This comes after a meeting that was held on 21 May by members of the Free State House of Traditional Leaders in which a decision was made that the land would be secured for Batlokwa Ba Mokgalong. Ntombela stated that kings play important roles in our respective communities, especially during these trying times when the nation is fighting a deadly pandemic.
Ntombela stated this comes at a time when the 66th anniversary of the signing of the Freedom Charter is celebrated, which states that “The land shall be shared among those who work it. Restriction of land and ownership on a racial basis shall be ended, and all the land re-divided amongst those who work it, to banish famine and land hunger”.
