#CoronavirusNW: State funeral for MEC─── LUCKY NKUYANE 12:00 Thu, 09 Jul 2020

President Cyril Ramaphosa has granted the late North West MEC for Cogta, Gordon Kegakilwe, a provincial official funeral category 1 and also ordered that the national flag fly at half-mast.
The office of the premier, Job Mokgoro, explains that the flag will fly at half-mast from Thursday until the evening of the funeral. Mokgoro's spokesperson, Vuyisile Ngesi, in a statement reveals that Kegakilwe will be laid to rest on Friday 10 July.
He says Kegakilwe's funeral service will comply with the Covid-19 lockdown regulations, and applicable health protocols will be observed. Kegakilwe died after a cardiac arrest due to Covid-19 complications on Monday at a Hospital in Klerksdorp.
"The funeral service will be broadcast on different media platforms, including a live streaming on the office of the premier's Facebook page from 07h00. "This to ensure that South African citizens become part of the service," Ngesi adds.
Kegakilwe was admitted with Covid-19 pneumonia on Sunday at the Vryburg Private Hospital and later on Monday transported to a medical facility in Klerksdorp where he died after several attempts to resuscitate him failed. His death comes amidst a surge in the rate of infections and the rise in the death toll among Covid-19 patients in the province. The province has about 5,655 active cases after 1,456 patients recovered from the virus, and 36 deaths were recorded from the 7,147 reported cases.
