Redstone solar plant awarded | News Article

Kimberley - Solar company SolarReserve says the Redstone Solar Thermal Power Project is the first of its kind in Africa. The plant will be located in Postmasburg, near Kimberley in the Northern Cape.

The company says the project is a consortium and the development will be adjacent to the 75MW Lesedi and 69MW Jasper photovoltaic solar plants in Kimberley.

The three projects comprise the world’s first combined solar park. The National Department of Energy awarded the 100MW Redstone solar project on Thursday. The plant is scheduled to be operational in early 2018, with the construction phase expected to create more than 800 jobs.

Northern Cape Premier Sylvia Lucas believes the project will contribute and boost the economy of the province.
