Bloemfontein - While the inflow to the Vaal Dam has dropped significantly since Monday, inflow into Bloemhof Dam remains very high. This is according to Water Affairs Acting Director General Trevor Balzer, who says they continue to monitor the situation around the clock to minimize possible flood damage as much as possible.
Balzer says they will probably increase the outflow at Bloemhof to around 700 cubic metres per second today, which will increase the risk to communities downstream of the dam. He says water is also currently being released from the Gariep and Van der Kloof Dams.
Meanwhile ER24 says at least 70 people had to be airlifted to safety from a hill in Lephalale, Limpopo, yesterday.

Spokesperson Luyanda Majija says residents had sought refuge on the hill as water levels from the Magol River overspill started rising.
