The City of Roses is just over a week away from hosting the annual FS SSI Provincial Athletics Championships for Secondary Schools at the Mangaung Athletics Stadium.

The athletics meet, formally known as the old Inter Hoër will feature 1600 athletes from approximately 240 schools throughout the Free State.
 
The meet will see 185 finals during the two days of which 78 are field and 95 are track events, as well as 12 relays.
 
This morning triple jumper Malebogo Molefe and sprinter Ronald Rakuku both of HTS Louis Botha as well as hammer thrower Nadia Meiring of Hoërskool Sentraal were appointed as ambassadors for the event at its launch.
 
These three athletes are also all expected to win the respective golds’ in their various age groups.
 
South African School Athletics president, William Makotsanyane told OFM Sport that the event is important with Durban looking to win the hosting rights for the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
The meet takes place on 13 and 14 March at the Athletics Stadium.
