Water Affairs Minister Nomvula Mokonyane will reveal the extent of South Africa's water problem when she holds a media briefing in Johannesburg on Sunday.
The SABC reports Gauteng is likely to face water restrictions after Rand Water said supply was under severe strain.
The KwaZulu-Natal and the Free State has been declared disaster areas due to the drought. Areas in the North West and Limpopo are also experiencing the drought.
