6 in every 10 registered voters to vote ANC: Ipsos poll | News Article

A record 48 political parties will contest the May 8 election.

A recent Ipsos opinion poll predicts another ANC victory in the upcoming elections. The poll found that six in every ten registered voters (61 percent) will put their mark next to ANC.

The ANC is followed by the DA (14 percent), EFF (9 percent) and IFP (2 percent). In total, 13 percent of registered voters answered that they would not vote, would not vote for a current party, refused to answer or didn’t know which party they would vote for.

In 2014, the ANC received 62 percent, DA 22 percent and the EFF 6 percent of the national vote.

Professor Kealeboga Maphunye, chair of the Department of Political Sciences, College of Human Sciences at Unisa said South Africans are very aware of what is happening currently in the country and what has been happening in the past five years.

Maphunye said people are increasingly becoming aware that political parties should be questioned and may change their votes accordingly.
