• 1968: Second heart transplant in South Africa is performed by Dr Chris Barnard on Dr Philip Blaiberg. He lived one year and seven months with the new heart.
• 1964: Failed assassination attempt on president Nkrumah of Ghana.

• 1921: 1st religious service radio broadcast in US, KDKA-Pittsburgh.
• 1955: 1st "Bob Cummings Show" premieres on NBC (later on CBS).
• 1940: Archibald Campbell Mzoliza Jordan, Xhosa writer, linguist and academic and outspoken critic of the National Party government's Bantu Education policy, marries Priscilla Phyllis Ntantla. Pallo Jordan is their son.
• 1968: "Zizi" closes at Broadway Theater NYC after 49 performances.
• 1969: Australian Rupert Murdoch gains control of the 'News of the World'.

• 1932: The SA. rugby team beats England on Twickenham 7-0.

• 1982: 70th Australian Mens Tennis: Johan Kriek beats S Denton (62 76 67 64).
