South Africa's Kevin Anderson has been knocked out of the 2020 Australian Open being played in Melbourne.


Anderson, a two-time Grand Slam finalist was beaten in five-sets by the 29th seeded Taylor Fritz of the USA.

Anderson won the first two sets of the second round tie, but the 22-year-old American to force the third-set into a tie-breaker, which he won.

Fritz broke the service of Anderson early in the fourth and fifth sets to claim the match, 4-6, 6-7, 7-6, 6-2, and 6-2.

Fritz will face Austria's Dominic Thiem in the 3rd round.

Thiem in his turn sent local wildcard entry, Alex Bolt, crashing out in five-sets. The Austrian won the game 6-2, 5-7, 6-7, 6-1, and 6-2.
