The South African Football Association (SAFA) has confirmed that they have lodged a complaint against the referee of Sunday night’s FIFA World Cup qualifier between Ghana and Bafana Bafana in Cape Coast.

This comes as the Black Stars beat Bafana 1-0 through a dubious penalty awarded by Senegalese referee Maguette Ndiaye.

The defeat meant that Bafana were eliminated from the World Cup qualification while Ghana advanced to the third and final round.

The SAFA CEO, Tebogo Motlanthe, confirmed that they have already approached both CAF and FIFA.

“The association has decided to lodge a formal complaint so that the conduct of the match officials is closely investigated by both FIFA and CAF.

“We will be having a press conference that will be telling the nation what will happen going forward.

"We suspect the game was fixed and our position is that it must be investigated.

“The conduct of the match officials from Senegal left much to be desired and we want both CAF and FIFA to investigate.

“We salute the boys and the technical team for the good work they have done.”

Sunday night’s defeat was the first for Bafana since Hugo Broos took over as the coach earlier in the year.
