Manchester City are through to the semi-finals of the FA Cup for the sixth season in a row after beating Newcastle 2 – 0 at the Etihad Stadium last night.

Bernardo Silva scored both City goals – the first in the 13th minute when Silva shot was deflected off Newcastle defender Dan Burn.  He scored the second goal in the 31st minute with Sven Botman’s head steering the ball into the net.

Newcastle came close in the 36th minute with Alexander Isak almost scoring for the visitors, but Stefan Ortega got down to his left to keep the shot out. It was Newcastle’s only effort on goal in the game.

After the game, Jeremy Doku, who had a number of chances to score, told the BBC that the team did exactly what was expected of them.

“We were in control, but you never know, you always have to be careful with counter-attacks... but I think the defenders did very well and we came back to help them as well,” he said.

City joins Coventry City, who pulled off a shock 3-2 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.  In today’s quarter-finals, Chelsea will face Leicester City and Manchester United will be up against Liverpool.
