The Bloemfontein Celtic duo of Bongani Sam and Mondli Mpoto have been named in the Bafana Bafana squad which will be competing in the 2019 COSAFA Cup which will be played in Durban.

The tournament was originally meant to be played in Durban, however, they withdrew as hosts in February.

Due to South Africa having to prepare for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt next month, the national U23 coach, David Notoane, will take charge of the team for the COSAFA Cup.

Mpoto, who plays goalkeeper, got limited time with the senior Celtic team this past season as he was competing against the captain, Patrick Tignyemb, for the role at the club.

Sam in his turn joined Celtic from Highlands Park last season and became a regular in the Phunya Sele Sele line up, and he also captained the side a few times.

He has been named in the Bafana squad as a defender, however, is no stranger to playing in the midfield as well.

Bafana, who were crowned as the champions in 2016, will play against Botswana in the quarter-finals on 2 June at Princess Magogo Stadium.
