The Premier Soccer League club, Bloemfontein Celtic, has released the defender, Alfred Ndungane, after just six games into the 2018/19 season.

Ndungane, who was named as the PSL’s Player of the Month in August, has been strongly linked with the Soweto giants, Orlando Pirates, since January of this year.

The club, who are in financial trouble, confirmed via a statement that they have agreed to release their star player with immediate effect.

“It is incredibly painful losing a player of Ndengane’s calibre, however, after speaking to him for months trying to convince him to stay, we realised that he was adamant about his request to be released.

“I must emphasise though, that through negotiations for him to extend his stay and his ultimate decision to depart, there was no bad blood but rather amicable discussions through his manager.”

“We, therefore, wish him all the best for his future endeavours and wholeheartedly thank him for his professional conduct and contribution towards the brand Celtic.”

Ndungane is now free to link up with the Buccaneers in January during the next transfer window, however, he may be making his way to Mayfair sooner, should he receive special clearance from FIFA.

The news comes as a devastating blow to Celtic who face a tough week in the league, with a home match against the champions, Mamelodi Sundowns, on Wednesday, and Saturday’s big derby against Free State Stars in Bethlehem.
