Bloemfontein Celtic yesterday secured themselves a spot in the Nedbank Cup round of 16 after they narrowly beat Supersport United 5-4 on penalties at the Dr Molemela Stadium in Bloemfontein.
Celtic however made life harder for themselves after they squandered a penalty opportunity in the 17th minute after Siwelele winger Menzi Masuku was fouled inside the SuperSport box by Onismor Bhasera.
The home side continued to hold onto their narrow 1-0 lead until the 58th minute when constant pressure from Matsatsantsa paid off with a Sipho Mbule goal to make it 1-1.
The deadlock remained throughout the remainder of regulation time as well as what would be a largely unexciting 30 minutes of extra time.
The fate of these teams were then decided in a tense penalty shootout that saw Phunya Sele Sele's Patrick Tignyemb saved a Derwin Farmer spot kick to make it advantage Celtic.
It was then Tignyemb who stepped up to secure victory as he drove a penalty past the United keeper to see his side into the next round while Supersport exit the competition.
