“Despite struggles of having a stable choirmaster in the earlier stages of the competition, the Northern Cape choir led by Langa Mavuso has seemingly become one of the serious contenders to walk away with the prize money.”

The only Central South African team left in the Clash of the Choirs national competition has continued to amaze judges with their impeccable performance.

Despite struggles of having a stable choirmaster in the earlier stages of the competition, the Northern Cape choir led by Langa Mavuso has seemingly become one of the serious contenders to walk away with prize money of R1 million and a recording deal. This past weekend the choir delivered a sterling performance with Babes Wodumo and the late Mamphintsha’s ‘Wololo’.

The song was released in 2016 as one of the contenders for Song of the Year and also featured in Black Panther (2018) after surpassing 2,3 million views in three months.

The judging panel was impressed by the group’s performance with Zwai Bala saying that he could hear that the group had taken some notes and improved from previous performances. While Buhle Bendalo was entertained even though there are a bit of technicalities the group has to focus on going forward.

“I enjoyed your performance, I thought it was very entertaining as well. The energy, you guys kept it going the whole time, if anything it made me separate myself from the singing. If you’ve got an opportunity to distract me with something, you might as well do it and congratulations on that,” said the famous South African Gospel singe Dr Tumi.

None of the teams were eliminated on Sunday even though judges were unimpressed by some performances.
