Lesufi says ANC conference 'a major economic boost'─── 07:33 Fri, 16 Dec 2022
This weekend, the African National Congress will elect its new leadership. Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi said that thousands of delegates are expected at the Nasrec Expo Centre in Johannesburg.
"We are excited as Gauteng to be here," he said on Thursday evening during a gala dinner held for delegates.
"We need to open our economy and ensure that those in the hospitality industry benefit from this event and its activities.
"We are expecting almost 4000 delegates, and plus minus 15 000 additional people will descend on Gauteng, our hotels and our tourist attractions. It is a major, major benefit and economic boost.
"We want to strengthen economic opportunities. Our people are without jobs, so we want those that have the purse so that we can share with them our economic opportunities so we can get the economy to start pumping again.
"We want the economy to prosper because if the economy prospers, we've got lots of opportunities, people get jobs, the tax base broadens and we can be in a position to serve our people."
