Cosatu asks for workers to access retirment funds─── 11:52 Mon, 25 May 2020
Cosatu has submitted an urgent request to Finance Minister Tito Mboweni to allow workers to access a portion of their retirement funds.
The trade union federation says this can be used as an income replacement for its members.
The union body's request is contained in a formal letter sent to the minister.
Cosatu says many of its members aren't receiving an income due to the lockdown and accessing this money is critical to their well-being.
It says the relief can be limited to no more than the equivalent of six months pay.
