Deputy President David Mabuza was on his way home from China on Sunday after concluding "a successful working visit", where he co-chaired the 7th South Africa-China Bi-National Commission, the presidency said.

During his visit Mabuza assured the business community in China that a package of economic reforms would soon be announced to enhance South Africa's competitiveness, the presidency said in a statement.

"The package of reforms is aimed at enhancing South Africa's competitiveness, boost economic confidence, and set the country on a sustained economic growth [path]," said Mabuza.

He also called for greater market access for South African value added products exported to China, particularly agricultural products, to further expand on the massive trade between the two countries.

At the South Africa-China business roundtable, the SA-China Business Association committed to establish a formal structure to compliment the ongoing government to government engagement under the bi-national commission.

China's ministry of commerce said Beijing would increase the representation of the Chinese business delegation to the upcoming second investment conference in South Africa. The Chinese delegation would now be represented by 70 businesses.

Mabuza's spokesperson, Matshepo Seedat, said that in line with the implementation of the existing comprehensive strategic partnership between South Africa and China, the bi-national commission considered significant progress achieved in the implementation of resolutions passed at the 6th bi-national commission held in South Africa in 2016.

"In this regard, the two countries have expressed much appreciation to progress made and further work will be done through sectoral committees," said Seedat.

On his return to Pretoria, Mabuza would host his Vietnamese counterpart, Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue, on Tuesday. Diplomatic ties between South Africa and Vietnam were established in 1993, with Hanoi opening an embassy in Pretoria in 2000.
