Thabo Manyoni to head SA’s municipal authority─── PULANE CHOANE 09:54 Sat, 02 Mar 2019
The former mayor of the Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality, Thabo Manyoni, has been appointed as the chairperson of the Municipal Demarcation Board (MDB).
He is one of ten members of the board, which were appointed by President Cyril Ramaphosa to serve on the board which is an independent authority responsible for delimiting the boundaries of South African districts, municipalities and the electoral wards within those municipalities.
In a post he made on his Facebook page last night, Manyoni said that the platform he has been chosen to serve on is a very powerful one and vowed to protect South African communities regardless of their race.
Manyoni also said he was happy about the appointment and vowed to serve the country with honesty and transparency.
He further said he’s been humbled by the trust those who appointed him have displayed in choosing him, and further said leading the country in this role was an honour for him. OFM News was unable to reach Manyoni for official comment on the matter.
Manyoni is the only member of the board who will serve on a full-time basis. They all started their duties on Friday, 1 March, after the term of office of the former board ended on the 19th of February and will serve the Board for five years.
Other members on the board are Mbali Pearl Myeni, who is the Deputy Chairperson, Monnapula Petrus Motlogelwa, David Mohale, Albert Kekesi, Nomso Baliso, Themba Dubazana, Mmatsie Mooki and Mabjoalo Jane Thupana. The members bring with them various educational qualifications as well as experience in local, provincial, and national government.
