The Proteas Women took an unassailable 1--0 lead in the three-match One-Day International series against Sri Lanka with a 7-wicket win in Kimberley on Saturday.

Sri Lanka had a bat first at the Diamond Oval and were bowled our for 229-runs in 49.5 overs.

The captain, Chamari Athapaththu, was once again the star batter for the visitors from the subcontinent, while Kavisha Dihari scored 42 and Nilakshika Silva chipped in with 36.

Nadine de Klerk was the pick of the Proteas bowlers with 3/23 in 6-overs, while Ayabonga Khaka took 3/28 in 6.5-overs.

The Proteas captain, Laura Wolvaardt, produced the goods once again with the bat for South Africa by scoring 110 off 141 balls for her 6th ODI century.

Wolvaardt's captain's innings led to South Africa chasing down the score in 47.4-overs with 7-wickets in the bank.

The allrounder, Marizanne Kapp, was also outstanding with the bat with her knock of 80 of 84.

The third and final ODI will be played on Wednesday at the JB Marks Oval.
