Loubser relieved to stay on at the Cheetahs─── MORGAN PIEK 08:23 Tue, 16 May 2023
The Toyota Cheetahs outside back, Andell Loubser, is set to continue his stay at the team after extending contract.
Loubser has signed on for two more years at the franchise and he wants to start establishing himself at the team a little more.
Since joining he has enjoyed precious little game time, however, he is delighted to have job security for the next two years.
Loubser told OFM Sport getting a new contract was a huge relief, but he was also exploring offers from elsewhere.
“It's a huge relief and to have that job security for the next two years is obviously a weight off my shoulders,” said Loubser.
“My game time has been limited but a lot of faith has been shown towards me. I had a meeting with the higher ups and asked what is happening and what the plans are as I've also had a few offers to leave.
“They wanted me to stay as they are not finished with me yet. They felt that if I leave it would unsettle everything and they also believe that I have a future here.
“I also believe that, but my game time has been limited and that has been a bit frustrating. I am coming back from an ankle injury and I'm trying to work my way back. It won't be easy, but it will be worth it.”
While Loubser has enjoyed limited time on the park at the team, he has shown glimpses of what he is capable of and his big kicking game is certainly an asset, especially taking into account that the seasoned Frans Steyn is approaching the twilight of his illustrious career.
Meanwhile on Friday at 19:05 the Sharks will tackle the Cheetahs at Kings’ Park in the Currie Cup.
