This morning the Blitzboks took on Great Britain, a game in which they suffered their first defeat of the tournament. Following a 21-0 win against Uruguay, the Blitzboks entered their second game off to a good start to the tournament with one win in the bag.

Unfortunately their game against Great Britain got off to a slow start and a late fight back saw them narrowing the score to 12-10 in the second half with tries from JC Pretorius and Ryan Oosthuizen. 

Following their defeat against Great Britain, the Blitzboks took on France and took another blow for the morning in a 19-17 defeat to what started with them in the lead. 

Leading 17-7 at half time with tries from Ronald Brown, Impi Visser and Selvyn Davids, South Africa was off to a winning start. The second half saw France fighting back by claiming a two point lead.

The South Africans needed a win against France to advance to the quarter finals but after a narrow enough margin of defeat and Great Britain losing to Uruguay, the Blitzboks' defeat to France did not keep them from advancing. Still finishing second in their pool based off of a collection of results opened the door to the team’s chance at the playoffs and ultimately a chance to win the Cup.

The Blitzboks will face old rivals, Fiji, in the quarter finals on Sunday, the 6th of November, at 05:50am.
