Pieter Bergh appointed Griquas head coach─── MORGAN PIEK 17:45 Mon, 06 Sep 2021
Pieter Bergh will be returning to Kimberley after officially being appointed as the head coach of the Tafel Lager Griquas.
Bergh, who was previously an assistant to Peter Engeldow at the Peacock Blues, took over as the head coach of the Central University of Technology Ixias in the Varsity Cup and became one of the best tacticians in the tournament.
Bergh takes over from Scott Mathie who is said to be heading to the USA. Mathie led the Griquas to the Currie Cup semi-finals this season and he will be leaving a solid foundation for Bergh to take over.
Just last week, the Griquas assistant coach, Albert van den Berg, was appointed as the new Lions forwards coach.
The former Cheetahs lock and flanker, Barend Pieterse, will serve as Bergh's assistant.
Bergh’s three-year contract at the Griquas starts on 1 October 2021.
