The Springbok captain, Siya Kolisi, is set to miss Rugby Championship Tests against the Wallabies and the All Blacks.

The flanker is still battling with a knee injury he sustained while playing for the Stormers in the Super Rugby.

Kolisi will be undergoing a scan on Friday, and the coach Rassie Erasmus, indicated that they will wait for the results, before making a decision, but they will be cautious about exposing him to Test rugby and they don’t want to lose him before the Rugby World Cup in Japan.

“We will wait for the results of his scans on Friday, and then we will take it from there and see what the return to play protocol will be.

“I guess that it would be that he will be training with us until we get onto that plane to New Zealand, but then he will be staying behind and we will probably get him to play one or two Currie Cup games.

“If his tests are positive we will try and get him back into test match rugby, hopefully for that game against Argentina.

“After that, he will probably be on the plane with us to Japan. That is probably the most likely route with will be taking.

“I think if we push him now to go with us to New Zealand, we might end up with more than a 50 percent chance that he won’t go with us to the World Cup.

“We have a few players who need game time, who we want to consider for captaincy.”

The Springboks tackle the Wallabies on 20 July at Ellis Park, and a week later they face the All Blacks in Wellington.
