The 400m world record holder, Wayde van Niekerk, cruised to a win last night during the ACNW Open Track & Field meet at the Macarthur Stadium in Potchefstroom on Tuesday night.
In typical Van Niekerk fashion, it looked like he took the first 300m at a canter but cracked on the afterburners over the final 100m to win in a time of 45.92 sec.
The win was quite a bit slower than the 45.58 sec he ran in Switzerland in September to win during the Galà dei Castelli in Bellinzona.
It was Van Niekerk’s first race in South Africa since winning the Free State Championships in 47.28 sec in Bloemfontein back in February.
