The MEC of the department, Mase Manopole, says that the department has continuously been spraying on farms and in areas where an influx of locusts has been reported. She says that they have a helicopter that is being used to spray large areas of infested land.

She urges all farmers who are on their land and those who have abandoned their land to inform the department of any locust infestations so that they can act swiftly.
She says she has received reports from the department that say they’ve beefed up the locust control programme.
“A very good thing is that the farmers’ associations are helping the department, all of them are working in partnerships, the national, provincial, and local departments have collaborated to ensure that they help us,” says Mase.
I urge and continue to ask that farmers contact us if they spot locusts so that we can prevent infestations, concludes Mase.
