The North West province will on Monday reveal its plans and details about the vaccine roll-out with the first shipment of India-made COVID-19 vaccines on its way to South Africa.

The underfire premier, Job Mokgoro, together with his Health MEC, Madoda Sambatha, will outline their plan to vaccinate the front-line workers, which include health care practitioners. He is expected to reveal how many healthcare workers, both from the provincial government and private healthcare structures, will be vaccinated.

South Africa is dealing with the spread of the second wave of the virus following the emergence of the new variant in the country, which led to President Cyril Ramaphosa and cabinet re-introducing the adjusted level 3 lockdown. Meanwhile, the total number of cumulative COVID-19 cases in the province stands at about 57 154 with 46 440 recoveries and 933 deaths.

The province has 9 781 active cases with 314 cases having been identified in the last 24 hours. Mokgoro and Sambatha will also be joined by members of the Provincial Coronavirus Command Council. The first shipment of India-made COVID-19 vaccines is set to arrive at OR Tambo International Airport on Monday after the shipment left India on Sunday.
