Fierce competition expected at Lichtenburg Show─── SABRINA DEAN 17:49 Mon, 18 Apr 2016

Lichtenburg - Organisers of the 99th annual Lichtenburg Show say even though livestock entries are lower than usual due to the drought, this is going to result in extremely fierce competition.
Vice-President of livestock for the show, Derick le Roux, says more than 400 cattle representing five individual breeds will be showcased.
Cattle classes include Angus and Charolais events, as well as regional championships for the Simbra, Simmentaler, Brahman and Limousine breeds. Friday is the big day with the Interbreed Championships and the Breedline Young Bull Championships on the line-up.
Le Roux says the small stock side is also well represented with classes for Dorpers, Boer Goats and Mutton Merinos, as well as a section dedicated to poultry. There is also a huge Youth Show on Thursday with learners from at least six different schools participating. There are also numerous other agricultural exhibitions and displays.
The agricultural progamme takes place at the Lichtenburg Showgrounds just outside town on the Koster Road from Wednesday 20 April until Friday 22 April. Entrance to the show is free on Wednesday and Thursday. Tickets on Friday cost R40 per adult.
