Water crisis intensifies at Setsoto Municipality─── REFILWE GAESWE 16:52 Mon, 06 Jun 2016
Ficksburg - The water crisis has intensified at the Setsoto Municipality due to a lack of rain.
The municipality’s Water Services Manager, Thabo Mokhethoa, says they are struggling to pump water due to the low levels of raw water in the Caledon River and Meulspruit Dam that provides Setsoto, comprising among others Clocolan and Ficksburg. The municipality will resume water restrictions from today to ensure a longer period of water supply to residents.
According to Mokhethoa, residents will only have running water 17:00 until 21:00, on a daily basis. He says this will continue until there is water in the reservoirs and the rain falls. Setsoto says it will continue delivering water to communities with water tanks.
Residents are requested to consult Ward Councillors regarding points of water tanks deliveries and time schedules. Mokhethoa says consultations can also be done at their nearest municipal offices.
He emphasises that although some residents have running water in their yards, they appeal that they should continue using water sparingly. The municipality says activities such as watering gardens and car washing must be halted to lengthen the period of water supply to all residents.
